DJI Innovation, also known as DJI, is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) brand under Shenzhen DJI Innovation Technology Co., Ltd.

In August 2018, DJI released the Mavic 2 series of drones, known as the “Mavic 2.”

On June 11, 2019, DJI Innovation was included in the “2019 Forbes China’s Most Innovative Companies” list. In December 2019, DJI was featured in the “2019 China Brand Strong Nation Summit” as one of the exemplary 100 brands.

In August 2020, DJI was valued at 100 billion RMB (Chinese Yuan), ranking 14th on the “2020 Hurun Global Unicorn List” in Suzhou High-tech Zone.

On December 18, 2020, the U.S. Department of Commerce placed DJI Innovation on the so-called “Entity List” under the pretext of “protecting U.S. national security,” imposing controls on the company’s exports to the United States. In response to this unwarranted sanction, DJI stated on December 20th that it would “continue to sell in the United States,” and American customers could continue to purchase and use DJI products.

On April 27, 2022, according to Phoenix News, drone manufacturer DJI Innovation Technology announced that the company was reevaluating compliance requirements in different jurisdictions. During this review, DJI suspended all business activities in Russia and Ukraine.

In November 2022, DJI officially released the new drone “Mavic 3 Classic,” focusing on flagship aerial photography.

In March 2022, Chinese drone giant DJI was reported to have had its account suspended by the U.S. UI design software company Figma. Figma stated in an email that DJI was named in the U.S. sanctions list. As a result, due to U.S. law, Figma could no longer provide access to its software. They began freezing DJI’s Figma account.

In May 2023, the Biden administration made a judgment against Chinese drone company DJI Innovation, finding it guilty of infringing on two patents owned by the American company DeSisto, and demanded compensation of $279 million (approximately 2 billion RMB).

On August 1, 2023, DJI officially released a statement, saying: “Since our inception, we have consistently opposed the use of our products and technology for any military or war purposes. We have never designed or manufactured products and equipment for military purposes. We have never promoted or sold our products for military conflicts or wars in any country. We have taken proactive measures to prevent our drones and other products from being modified into weapons or used for military purposes. We have always strictly adhered to these principles and have repeatedly emphasized them publicly. We will also actively cooperate with the recent drone export control policy issued by the Chinese government to ensure full compliance and fulfill our corporate social responsibility.”

DJI Innovation, founded in 2006 by Wang Tao, is a drone brand under Shenzhen DJI Innovation Technology Co., Ltd.

In 2012, DJI introduced the world’s first ready-to-fly aerial photography integrated drone, the “DJI Phantom 1.”

In November 2014, DJI launched the Software Development Kit (SDK).

On September 1, 2016, DJI officially released the Osmo Mobile handheld smartphone gimbal at the IFA exhibition in Berlin, Germany.

On August 23, 2018, DJI Innovation unveiled the “Mavic 2” series of drones, including the “Mavic 2 Pro” and “Mavic 2 Zoom.” The “Mavic 2 Pro” featured the L1D-20c aerial camera jointly developed by DJI Innovation and Hasselblad, marking DJI Innovation’s first collaboration with Hasselblad cameras.

On November 29, 2018, DJI Innovation officially released the Osmo Pocket handheld gimbal camera, capable of shooting 4K60fps video.

On June 12, 2019, DJI Innovation launched its first educational robot, the “RoboMaster S1,” in Beijing. The robot features 31 sensors, 46 programmable components, supports two programming languages, and serves as a platform for teenagers and technology enthusiasts to experience artificial intelligence technology.

On November 5, 2020, DJI Innovation released the second generation of the Mavic Air, the “Mavic Air 2,” equipped with a 1/2-inch sensor and capable of shooting photos with up to 48 million pixels or 4K60fps video.

On August 26, 2020, DJI Innovation released the Osmo Mobile 4 handheld smartphone gimbal, featuring an innovative magnetic structure.

On November 25, 2020, DJI Innovation launched two professional camera stabilizers, the “RSC 2” and “RS 2,” featuring a foldable design for the first time in the industry.

On August 16, 2023, DJI Innovation officially released its first cargo-carrying drone, the DJI FlyCart 30, which is designed for heavy payloads, long-range flights, strong signals, and high intelligence. It is suitable for transporting goods in mountainous, coastal, rural, and various emergency scenarios.
